Core Tip: The Yorkshire Dales Meat Company has seen sales soar by 150% as the Tour de France arrives in the area.
The company said the amYorkshire Dales Meat Companyount of sausages and burgers it was supplying to hotels and restaurants had increased rapidly as visitors flooded into Yorkshire for the first two stages of the historic bicycle race.

Jonathan Carter, general manager of Yorkshire Dales Meat Company, said: “We were expecting an uptake in sales in and around the Tour de France weekend, but sales have rocketed.

“Kitchens that we just usually supply with a relatively low number of burgers are now buying them in vast quantities, while hotels and cafés are buying even more sausages than usual to meet the demands of breakfast customers.”

The Wensleydale-based producer said the most popular products have been traditional beef and onion burgers, chilli burgers, 12-inch Swaledale sausages, lamb and mint burgers and chilli sausages.

The Yorkshire Dales Meat Company supplies supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, food pubs, event venues and the catering trade. The Knox family, which owns and runs the business, is based on its own farm in Wensleydale, where it has been farming for over 100 years.

Tour de France competitors will race from Leeds to Harrogate on Saturday 5 July, and from York to Sheffield on the following day. On Monday, the Tour will head south to Cambridge, Essex and London, before travelling across the Channel to France on Tuesday 8 July.
