The latest spate of lauHigh-proteinnches from General Mills, Inc. taps into five consumer trends: gluten-free, protein, bold flavors, whole grains and indulgence. Among more than 150 new products rolling out this summer are Chex Gluten Free Oatmeal, Larabar Renola grain-free granola, and nacho cheese Old El Paso taco shells.

“Everything we do starts with the consumer in mind, and in fiscal 2015 we’re applying this consumer first mindset across our portfolio,” said Ken Powell, chairman and chief executive officer of General Mills. “Through a deep understanding of our consumers — what foods they like, where they shop and how they like to cook — we are rapidly addressing their needs with products that offer relevant health news, increased convenience, superior taste and product quality.”

Protein

With more than half of consumers seeking to add more protein to their diets, according to General Mills, new snacks and cereal with added protein are set to debut.

Cheerios Protein, the brand’s first-ever protein-fortified variety, combines the iconic cereal with crunchy granola clusters and includes 11 grams of protein with milk.

Yoplait is expanding its Greek yogurt lineup with lemon meringue, key lime, peaches and cream, honey, pina colada, caffe mocha, and caramel varieties. Five new flavors are debuting in the Yoplait Greek 100 lineup: raspberry, pineapple, mango, blackberry pie, and Boston cream pie.

Under the Cascadian Farm banner comes new protein granola, made with pea protein and containing 10 grams of protein per serving. The products include organic whole grain and crisp rice with coconut flakes and dark chocolate or dried apples with a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg.

Nature Valley is adding a pair of flavors to its protein granola line with peanut butter and peanut butter and dark chocolate. Each variety contains 10 grams of protein per serving.
