India-based food company Allanasons has announced plans to invest around $20m in a meat-processing facility in Ethiopia, reports Bloomberg.
The company has secured a land in Adami Tulu in Oromia region to build new facility, which is around 170km south of the capital, Addis Ababa.
Allanasons Ethiopian operations head Aman Khan was quoted by Bloomberg as saying that the new facility will produce around 70 metric tons of meat per day.
"Ethiopia has the largest livestock population in Africa and the demand for meat proteins continues to increase globally, so we feel it is the right decision to invest in the livestock sector here," Khan added.
As per the Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Agency, the country's livestock population estimated to be around 49 million cattle, 25 million sheep and 22 million goats, which contribute around 15% to 17% of gross domestic product.
