Core Tip: Coveris has hit the acquisition trail again, snapping up Learoyd Packaging for an undisclosed sum
Burnl Coverisey-based Learoyd specialises in flexible packaging and supplies supermarkets, own brands and food manufacturers. In 2013 it posted sales of £20m.

According to Coveris, the deal supports and strengthens its UK flexibles offer through “advanced processes and technologies in addition to providing access to new customer and product markets”.

A spokesperson for Coveris told Packaging News Learoyd is highly advanced in the application of fixed colour management under its Accutone brand, which offers benefits in reducing waste, increasing productivity and reducing costs.

Coveris hopes to expand in to ambient food sectors such as bakery, morning goods and confectionary – for both brand owners and private label retail.

Mark Lapping, president of Coveris’ UK Food and Consumer business said: “Learoyd has built an enviable market reputation for flexible packaging through its innovative culture, focus on best practice and strong management team. Through our aligned capabilities in flexographic print, Coveris’ investment in Learoyd will offer our customers greater access to first-class technology and an extensive knowledge base.”

Allan Ferguson, managing director, Learoyd Packaging, added: “Over recent years, we have invested in the long-term growth of the company, to develop a state of the art facility with extensive design capabilities as well as training and development for our staff. The backing of Coveris will enable us to deliver accelerated growth in a market which offers considerable expansion and cross-selling opportunities both in the UK and internationally.”
