Biology makes it hard for some people to lose weight, a study has found.
According to the U.S. National Institutes of Health, some people's metabolism slows more than others.
Researchers measured 12 obese people's metabolism before and after a day of fasting.
All participants were then put on a strict diet, in which their calorie intact was cut in half for six weeks.
"When people who are obese decrease the amount of food they eat, metabolic responses vary greatly, with a ‘thrifty' metabolism possibly contributing to less weight lost," the Daily Mail quoted researcher Dr. Susanne Votruba as saying.
"While factors such as adherence to diet affect weight to an extent, our study suggests we should consider a larger picture that includes individual physiology."
