An Ishida multi-head weigher at Irish vegetable grower Leo Dunne has played a central role in helping the company expand its operation into the supply of processed carrots.

The company evaluated the demand for processed carrots and identified it as a market which it could supply with a high-quality offering.

After winning a major contract, the company needed to develop a first-class processing facility in less than two months.

The Ishida CCW-RS Series ten-head waterproof model with 3l hoppers delivers accuracy and reliability, achieving 55 packs per minute on 500g bags of carrots with an overall accuracy rate of 98%.

The machine's ease of operation, including fast start-up using a simple-to-use remote control unit (RCU), provides flexibility to cope with varying production demands of the operation.

Leo Dunne specified the Ishida weigher for the new line, based on the company's established reputation in the market place.

Leo Dunne manager Emmet Dunne said: "The machine's ease of operation means our staff all like it.

"It is also far more intuitive than other weighers, so that if there are any minor issues during production, the machine will identify these and inform operators how to fix them."

The Ishida multi-head weigher is part of a complete line devised and installed by SF Engineering, which includes a swing loader, sorting table, elevating conveyor and support platform.

Leo Dunne's system was designed to handle carrots and other products, giving the company flexibility and the ability to react to market trends and developments.

Leo Dunne has achieved efficiency gains and a significant reduction in its carbon footprint.
