Core Tip: With over 1,000 sq mt of space and around 135 companies, India will be participating in Anuga, an international food and beverage fair, scheduled to be held at Cologne, Germany, from October 10-14, 2015. This was revealed at two meet-the-press events, whi
Disclosing details on the show, V Meera, general manager, ITPO, stated that major participation from the Indian side would be in the fine food segment. “Besides, India shall be presenting its organic products on which the government is focussing seriously wherein Sikkim has been declared a complete organic state. We intend to increase our footprint in organic segment by next year,” she said.

She stated that from India the principal participants would be APEDA and Spice Board.

Katharina C Hamma, chief operating officer, Koelnmesse, meanwhile suggested to ITPO that the Indian food industry should focus upon theme promotion on the lines of Incredible India, which is widely known across the globe.

“Indian food has a unique place in the world and India should consider making an effort to brand it well like Incredible India,” she stated.

She added, “India offer at Anuga includes tea, spices, general provisions as rice, millet and lentils and also Indian specialties. Indian specialties and dishes are sought after around the world. Not only by the large Indian communities in countries such as Great Britain and the United States but also by the growing fans of Indian cuisine in other parts of the world. In recent years, there has been continual expansion of Indian participation in Anuga. In 2005 there were 45 companies from India at Anuga; by 2013 that number had grown to 126. The visitor figures also show that Indian buyers' interest in Anuga has steadily increased in recent years. In 2005, we welcomed 304 Indian visitors to Anuga. Two years ago that figure had grown considerably to 529.”

Additionally in 2013, several Indian delegations visited the fair and not only took the opportunity to talk to a number of leading companies and co-operations but also to get together with foreign representatives.

“Anuga will take place for the 33rd time this year. The signs could hardly be more positive: five months before the fair begins. The exhibition area is already completely booked. I am very happy, therefore, to be able to state that this year, Anuga will once again present around 6,800 exhibitors from approximately 100 countries,” said Hamma.

Anuga 2015 - 10 Trade Shows in One
The proven concept of “10 Trade Shows in One” will be maintained in 2015. The fair, with 284,000 sq m gross exhibition space, takes over the entire Cologne Exhibition Grounds and all of its halls. The hall plan shows the allocation of the halls and the layout of the trade fairs. Taking Anuga Meat and Anuga Dairy as examples, I would like to quickly go into the range of products and services of the fair. With around 850 exhibitors from around 50 countries, Anuga Meat is one of Anuga’s largest trade fairs. Most importantly, however, it is the world’s most extensive information and ordering platform for meat, sausage, game and poultry. Anuga Meat is located in Koelnmesse Halls 5, 6 and 9, over a gross exhibition space of approximately 55,000 sqm. Its division into the sub-segments of sausage products (Halls 5.2 and 6), red meat (Halls 6 and 9) and poultry (Hall 9) mean that specialist buyers can orientate themselves easily.

On Trend Topics 2015, she informed that Anuga, as the world's leading trade fair, was rightly expected to represent the trends of the future. “We have already introduced the "Trend Topics" instrument several years ago to do this. These organise Anuga not “spatially” but "virtually." So, if you're looking for "vegetarian products," for example, our comprehensive database will give you a general overview and thus help identify and seek your contact within the Anuga trade fairs.

“This year we included the keyword "Vegan products." Vegan products have become one of the fastest-growing nutrition trends in recent years. For instance, around one million people in Germany eat vegan, according to the German Vegan Association, and that trend is growing. In other Western countries, the vegan trend has also seen significant growth, as in the UK and the Netherlands, for example. We are certain that this trend will be represented accordingly at the coming Anuga, further contributing to its growth.”

She also invited Indian agriculture and food processing ministers to visit the fair.

Meanwhile, trade in food products has become ever more intensive in recent years. Ten years ago, the total value of foods exported worldwide stood at US$552 billion. This figure has almost tripled and today stands at over US$1,457 billion, according to experts.

Visitors to Anuga are specialist buyers from the trade as well as from the catering industry. Two years ago we recorded around 155,000 trade visitors from 187 countries. Two thirds of the visitors come from abroad. The high standard of visitors is characteristic of Anuga: over 60 per cent of visitors state that they are either sole or co-decision-makers in their companies.

Trends – Global Food Trends and Regional Tendencies
In the food industry, innovation is a particularly important growth factor. At Anuga, the “Anuga Taste” innovation competition offers exhibitors and visitors the opportunity to research new products, concepts and trends.

One of the biggest current trends is the topic of convenience. Growing number of single or small households are choosing ready-made meals with a preference for reduced packaging. The fact that they are buying ready-made meals however, does not stop the consumer from paying attention to quality, sustainable production as well as target group-specific offers, like “free from” products. The innovation show “Anuga Taste 15” at Anuga will deliver a concentrated presentation of the trends.

For the second time, the “Anuga OliveMarket” will provide a concentrated platform for olive oil suppliers at Anuga in 2015, which will give them the perfect opportunity to demonstrate what their products are made of. At Anuga 2015, interested buyers have the opportunity to test all oils in one place and receive detailed advice and consultation. This special show will highlight the large and multi-faceted range of olive oils from the Mediterranean, but also of oils from South Africa and other olive oil-producing regions.
