Ebro Foods acquires specialty rice business RiceSelect for $45m

Core Tip: Ebro Foods has acquired US specialty rice business RiceSelect for $45m, through its local unit Riviana Foods.
The acquisition includes RiceSelect brand and other assets of the business, including a production plant in Alvin, Texas.

As part of the deal, RiceSelect's 40 employees will be moved to Riviana Foods.

RiceSelect offers aromatic and organic rice varieties and products based on ancient grains, quinoa and other super cereals. It generated around $31.1m in sales during 2014.

With the addition of RiceSelect, the company will boost its development in the fast growing segments of the rice market in North America.

Ebro Foods will now secure significant positioning in the healthy foods segment through new concepts based on ancient grains, gluten free, quinoa, whole grain, organic, high fiber, vitamins, minerals. The company will further invest in value added products and concepts.

Ebro Foods operates in rice, pasta, and sauces sectors in Spain and internationally.

The company offers rice, rice supplies, and rice-based products or ingredients under the SOS, La Fallera, La Cigala, Saludades, Lassie, Reis fit, Rix fix, Oryza, Bosto, Riceland, Risella, Peacock, Phoenix, El Mago, and Sello Rojo brands.
