With the slogan "Nature has its own diversity" Netto Marken-Discount will sell, in selected regions, asparagus from 11th of June to 13th of June 2015. The German asparagus will have small flaws. With this sustainability sales initiative the retailer tries to get consumers to appreciate food more. And in addition, the company is expanding the continued cooperation with German farmers with this sales campaign.
In parts of the following states Netto Marken-Discount will sell crooked asparagus from German cultivation at an affordable price, 2.99 Euro per 1.5 kilogram bag: North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein, Bavaria, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and in Hamburg and Berlin. The crooked asparagus with light violet discolouration from German ground are about 60 percent cheaper compared to the normal straight grade 1 asparagus.
The food discounter responded to the extremely positive feedback of its customers regarding the last 2 year's sustainability actions. This being a new sales campaign of slightly flawed products of German cultivation. In the future the company will sell German produce, which have a slight visual variation from the norm, on special days at great prices.

A heart for producers
The support of domestic agriculture is part of the corporate culture of Netto Marken-Discount. The food discounter started in 2008 with the initiative "A heart for producers". All these products in the Netto Marken-Discount range are sold with an added premium of ten cents. This surcharge goes to the German producers without any deductions. And since the start of this initiative the Netto Marken-Discount, with the support of its customers, has made a significant contribution to the support of German agriculture. And an extra 3.3 million Euro went to participating producers in the previous year.
