The European Commission has announced the extension of the temporary exceptional support measures for producers of fruit and vegetables up until 30 June, 2016, which are intended to alleviate the market disturbances caused by the Russian ban on imports of European agricultural products.
The proposal of the European Commission concerning the volumes allowed for withdrawal (including free distribution), green harvesting and non-harvesting, to be carried out in the period between 1 August 2015 and 30 June 2016, or until exhaustion of the volumes of the products referred to, is as follows in the case of Greece:
- Apples and pears: 2,500 tonnes
- Plums, grapes and kiwis: 16,300 tonnes
- Tomatoes, carrots, sweet peppers, cucumbers, gherkins: 1,350 tonnes
- Oranges, clementines, mandarins and lemons: 7,950 tonnes
- Peaches and nectarines: 20,900 tonnes
Greece has also been allocated a further 3,000 tonnes to be used freely for any product groups.
