The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department in Hong Kong is warning people not to consume a batch of Neufchatel chilled raw milk cheese due to possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes.
The move follows a notification from the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) of the European Commission that the above-mentioned batch of raw milk cheese was found to be tainted.
CFS spokesman said: "According to the information provided by the RASFF, the French producer concerned has initiated a recall of the affected batch of the product (with all best-before dates) and a small volume of the affected product has been imported into Hong Kong,"
The affected product is Neufchatel AOP with Batch No.: 32515F. This was produced by SARL Villiers and imported by Repertoire Culinaire Hong Kong from France.
Repertoire Culinaire said that six pieces of the affected cheese that have been imported and supplied to a restaurant were recalled and disposed, after it was notified by the supplier about the issue.
Consumption of the products contaminated with listeria may cause septicaemia, meningitis or even death in newborns, elderly and those with a weaker immune system.
CFS has received no reports of illnesses associated with the consumption of the recalled product.
