US-based establishment Kapowsin Meats is recalling close to 116,262 pounds of whole hogs as they may have been contaminated with salmonella, according to the US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The product associated with the recall include various weights of Kapowsin Meats Whole Hogs for Barbeque with establishment number Est. 1628 inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Produced between 18 April and 27 July this year, the recalled product is believed to be contaminated with salmonella I 4, [5],12:i:-.

The recall was initiated after the FSIS, along with the Washington State Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, found that several people were hit by food poisoning after consuming Kapowsin Meats Whole Hogs for Barbeque.

The traceback investigation identified 32 case-patients who consumed the recalled product prior to illness onset.

The recalled product was supplied to various individuals, retail locations, institutions, and distributors in Alaska and Washington.
