Russia has released a draft decree according to which it intends to stop meat imports from the US and EU.
The draft resolution was published on the Ministry of Economic Development's website.
Russia imports meat from different countries on the basis of a quota system. The draft decree proposes to maintain quotas on meat imports in 2016 at the level of current fiscal.
Currently, the upper limit for fresh or chilled beef is 40,000t, which comprises 29,000t from the EU. The quota for frozen beef is 530,000t, of which 60,000t comes from the EU and US.
The quota for pork is 400,000t, and of this, 30,000t comes from the EU and US.
Russia imports 364,000t of poultry meat, and of this 80,000t is imported from the EU.
The draft report stated: "Within five days after the possible abolition of the special measures for the supply of meat products from the US and the EU, their quota will be proportionally distributed among other participants of foreign trade turnover."
