"APK-Inform: Vegetables and Fruits" reports that Ukraine's produce price index for last week (from 26 September to 2 October 2015) increased by 11.7% after having fallen by 7.3% in the previous week. While two weeks ago the main reason for the fall in prices was the blockade of supplies to the Crimea, this time prices have grown due to seasonal factors, although not for all products.
"One of the main reasons for the growth in the value of the basket last week was the price of imported fruit, which started going up rapidly in anticipation of the new season," says Tatiana Getman, Head of" APK-Inform: Vegetables and Fruits". "A fairly significant role was also played by the rise in the price of potatoes."
It is worth noting that a significant rise in prices has also been registered for cucumbers, with the season coming to an end, and leeks, with demand far exceeding supply; however, a number of products became cheaper last week. The biggest price drop was that of cabbages, but carrots, beets and tomatoes also became cheaper.
