Core Tip: As already reported from the 1st to 23rd of September 2015, the first shipments of figs from the new harvest from Turkey will take place during calendar week 40, 2015. The harvest quantity is still estimated at ca. 75,000 tons.
As already reported from the 1st to 23rd of September 2015, the first shipments of figs from the new harvest from Turkey will take place during calendar week 40, 2015. The harvest quantity is still estimated at ca. 75,000 tons. Furthermore, there is hardly any surplus from the old harvest.

Figs are grown in two areas in Turkey: in the lower situated fields, from which they can be harvested earlier than those that grow on the mountain slopes. The higher situated ones will have a better quality. There was a lot of rain until the end of September this year, which could have clearly reduce the growing quantities.

As soon as the first shops with figs departed, and the farmers took their raw goods to other packaging companies, the hope increases that the fig prices will drop. As indication, “good quality type no. 6. Natural” were offered around 4.50 to 4.75 USD per kg FOB Izmir. This is already a reduction compared to last year’s price level, but it is still high.
