The current grape market is transitioning between Europe and Brazil. "Most European retailers have already switched to Brazil with the white seedless and the red will follow in a week or two. The Greek grapes are completely done and the Italian supply continues limitedly," says Eddy Kreukniet of Exsa Europe.
"The demand is reasonably good and the supply from Brazil is sufficient this week, but under expectations over the next few weeks. The plan was for Brazil to have 30% more production. This was in sight in the first weeks, but since then volumes have dropped down to the levels of last season. Our expectation is that the market will be tight over the next few weeks," continues Eddy.
"Namibia and South Africa will produce at the same time as last year or slightly earlier, depending on the grower. We expect slightly more production from all areas due to some new planting, but there is mainly more available due to the switch in varieties that has taken place in recent years. What is very positive is that our new varieties such as Sweet Celebration, Melody, Magenta and Jack Salute will be available longer and in larger volumes over the coming year!"
