Foodbank has recognised six of its biggest industry supporters in a Canberra award ceremony.

Many readers and food consumers may be unaware of the huge volumes of foods produced by large food companies specifically for the needs of Australian charities serving food to underprivileged or needy Australians.

Foodbank Australia is a repository for food donations by many Australian food manufacturers and Foodbank Australia is, in effect, a food storage pantry and distribution centre that collects donated foods for distribution in each Australian State by welfare groups and councils.

Foodbank Australia’s 2015 awards were made in appreciation to the following:

Kellogg’s for donating one billion serves of cereals and snacks between 2013 and 2016
SPC Ardmona for over a decade of support and its’ no waste commitment
Havas Worldwide and GroupM for supporting Foodbank’s Food Fight campaign
BHP Billiton for contributing AUD$3.5 million to to the building infrastructure of Foodbank’s new Perth warehouse
Cerebos (owner of Fountain Sauce, Gravox, Saxa and other food brands) for dramatically increasing its product donations and for making a significant financial contribution

Chairman of Foodbank Australia, Enzo Allara, said that Foodbank always asks a lot of Australia’s food companies but “unfailingly they answer the call.”

“The job continues in working to realise our vision of an Australia without hunger but it is important to stop and reflect on what we’ve accomplished and acknowledge the outstanding individual contributions that make our work possible,” said Allara.

Australian Food and Grocery Council (AFGC) CEO Gary Dawson said that Foodbank gives Australian food companies the opportunity to use expert skills and knowledge to battle hunger.

“The strong commitment of food companies in providing practical, direct assistance to those in need is demonstrated in these great award winners,” said Dawson.
