Representatives of Russian companies have promised Tiraspol separatist authorities to import large volumes of vegetables and canned fruits from the Transnistrian region.
Russian entrepreneurs are interested in close cooperation with producers in Transnistria. Representatives of the so-called "Ministry of economy" in Tiraspol claim that the Russians are willing to help producers in the region with investments. Russian firms have, in fact, announced the signing of contracts with producers of the separatist Moldovan region to boost agricultural business and obtain greater volumes of fruit and vegetables for the Russian market.
Russia imposed an embargo on the import of fruit and vegetables from Moldova in July 2014. Over the past months, this has been partially lifted, but only for a few companies in Gagauzia and Transnistria.
