A Costa Rican delegation made up of six companies in the agricultural sector is on a trade mission in Spain with the goal of establishing new contacts with European companies and expanding business opportunities in the market.
According to an official statement from Costa Rica's Foreign Trade Corporation (PROCOMER), the exporters were participating in Fruit Attraction.
Throughout the fair, the Costa Rican companies Piña Pavon, Amazilia Dorada Agroindustrias, Global Fruit, Raices y Tuberculos Huetar Norte, Fresh Fruit Logistic, and Tropifoods conducted a series of meetings with potential buyers from Spain and England.
Along with the event, the delegation paid a visit to Valencia and the port of Castellon to learn about production techniques being applied by producers to improve their crops.
Alvaro Piedra, PROCOMER's manager of trade promotion, said the fair was part of the diversification strategy of national markets.
"This trade mission represents a new window opportunity for the Costa Rican agricultural sector. We are boosting national products, particularly in the Spanish market because of its cultural and linguistic affinity, as well as for its niche markets for fresh tropical produce," said Piedra.
Between January and September 2015, Costa Rican exports to the EU amounted to 1,355 million dollars.
