Banana exports from Cameroon since the beginning of 2015 have reached 199,000 tonnes, leading up to the third quarter of this year, sources from the Cameroon Banana Association (ASSOBACAM) revealed last Thursday.

The company Plantations du Haut Penja (PHP), a Cameroonian subsidiary of the Fruit Company of Marseilles, remains by far the market leader.

According to statistics, PHP alone has marketed 117,000 tonnes, around 60 percent of exports.

For its part, the state-owned Cameroonian Development Corporation (CDC), exported only 81,000 tonnes in the first nine months of the current year.

A fact quite noticeable in the statistics this year is the absence of the League of plantations de Mbanga (SPM), which operated so far 800 hectares of banana plantations in the Mungo department (Littoral) for an annual production estimated at 40,000 tonnes.

Since last year the company has been experiencing cash problems.
