Honduran banana exports up 6.3% in volume

The Honduran Central Bank reported that Honduran banana exports increased by 10.6% in currencies and 6.3% in volume in the third quarter of 2015 when compared with the same period last year.

Honduras exported 24,265 boxes of 18 kilos of bananas between January and September 2015, i.e. 6.8% more than the 22,818 cases it exported in the same period last year.

During the reference period, banana sales totaled $351.9 million dollars, 10.6% more than the $318 million achieved in the first nine months of last year.

According to the report, in September, the price of a box of bananas averaged $14.50 dollars, 4% more than the $13.93 dollars it was quoted at in the same period of 2014.

United States and Canada were the main destinations of exports of Honduran bananas since those markets bought more than 90% of the fruit sold.

Throughout 2014 banana exports, one of the main agricultural products of Honduras totaled $ 456 million, according to official figures.
