Most of the vegetable prices which were skyrocketing over the past few months, are now witnessing a sharp fall in Himachal, thanks to abundant supply of winter crops from neighbouring states.
According to traders, the prices of peas, which had shot up to Rs 120 per kilogram last fortnight, have come down to Rs 40 per kilogram in the retail market.
They said prices of other commonly consumed vegetables had also dropped in comparison to prices at which they were selling last month. Potatoes previously being sold for Rs 40, is now available for Rs 15 per kilogram. Similarly, prices of carrot, cauliflower, tomato and beans have come down to Rs 20- Rs 30 per kilogram in the retail market.
Wholesalers in the local vegetable market attributed the fall in prices to the arrival of fresh supplies of all types of vegetables from Punjab markets and also increase in local supply.
Anil Bhatia, a wholesaler at Hamirpur Sabzi Mandi, said the prices could fall further as there was glut of fresh vegetables in the Punjab vegetable markets almost every day.
Prices of other vegetables, including radish, turnip, spinach, cabbage, brinjal and pumpkin had also fallen, traders said.
