According to the National Health Service, Food Safety and Food Quality (SENASA), Mexico exported 260,920 tons of mangos to various countries, such as the United States, Canada, and Japan. This volume is 10% higher than in the previous year.
The agency stated that, last season, Mexico had exported 236,500 tons of this fruit to various international destinations.
Senasa also stated that during the 2015 mango season, phytosanitary measures for managing fruit flies were applied in 87,714 hectares devoted to mango production in the states of Campeche, Colima, Guerrero, Jalisco, Michoacan, Nayarit, Oaxaca and Sinaloa.
It's worth noting that the main destination of Mexican mango is the United States. The 2015 season began in January and ended in August, and the work carried out by the health technicians of Senasica, who didn't find any lots with living larvae at the border of the country, was fundamental to the season.
This achievement was derived from the joint work between experts from the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA), producers and packers, who conducted trapping activities, field sampling and monitoring.
In addition, they verified and certified the fruit in packaging and processing companies, where the Senasica discarded the fruit that didn't comply with US phytosanitary requirements for the import of fruits.
