The Department of Health is seeking to appoint a new Chair for COC, the Committee that provides independent advice to government departments and agencies on the potential risk to humans of cancer from substances such as environmental contaminants, food additives and contaminants, and chemicals in cosmetics or household products.

The Committee also advises on important general principles or new scientific discoveries in connection with carcinogenic risks, coordinates with other bodies concerned with the assessment of carcinogenic risks and present recommendations for carcinogenicity testing.

As Chair you will provide scientific advice independent of government or industry and have expertise relevant to the work of the COC and an overview of the chemical carcinogenicity field as a whole.

You will work with Committee members, who have a wide variety of expertise, and be supported by the Secretariat, provided jointly by the Food Standards Agency and Public Health England.

There is no remuneration for this post. However, you may claim travel and subsistence expenses. The time commitment is three meetings per year.

If you require an alternative format such as Braille, large print or audio please call Kully Kanda on 0113 254 6769, quoting reference EC16-22.
