Kraft Heinz has announced that it would shift to 100% cage-free eggs in all of its North American operations by 2025.
The transition to sustainable cage-free eggs was promoted by an US animal rights group, Humane Society.
The initiative taken by the group has resulted in the use or sell of cage-free eggs by several grocery stores and manufacturers in order to meet the present day demand for sustainable products.
Kraft Heinz Company corporate and government affairs senior vice-president Michael Mullen said: "Reflecting our mission 'To Be the Best Food Company, Growing a Better World,' we're committed to responsible, sustainable practices extending to every facet of our business.
"Making the move to source our eggs exclusively from cage-free hens builds on progress made by both Kraft and Heinz in previous years and reinforces our continuing pursuit of animal welfare improvements throughout our supply chain."
Kraft Heinz will source its eggs from cage-free hens in North America to use them in the company's range of brands, such as Heinz Mayo, Miracle Whip and Kraft Salad Dressings.
Humane Society US senior food policy director Josh Balk said: "We appreciate the people at Kraft Heinz working diligently to make this commitment a reality.
"Many animals will have better lives because of it."
Pittsburgh-based Kraft Heinz has also decided to launch organic Capri-Sun juices and remove artificial preservatives and additives from its macaroni and cheese, reported Trib Live.
