Héctor José Pellegrino, head of Central Market, told Radio Brisas that, since there was no harvest of oranges in the Coast because of the floods, the country had had to import oranges from Spain and prices had increased.
"The oranges in the Coast can't be harvested because of the floods and the Spanish oranges are sold at 40 pesos a kilo," said Pellegrino.
He also stated that things would improve in a month and a half because orange production was Argentina's strength.
Pellegrino asked people not to consume citrus, as prices were very expensive; some places were even charging 100 pesos for a kilo of limes. "Consumers can buy grapes or lemons from Tucuman for 12 pesos," he stated.
In addition, he said, the greengrocer is much cheaper than the supermarket.
He also said they should organize a frank fair so that the fruits and vegetables were more accessible to the consumers and asked the mayor to call him to implement it.
