Ukrainian onion exports in 2015 grew by 42.9% to $2.9 million. The first two months of 2016 showed the same positive trend. In February 2016 Ukraine exported onions to the value of $626,000, reported the state fiscal service of Ukraine.
This is 7.7 times more than January 2016 when $81,000 tons were exported. Altogether in January and February of 2016, $707,000 of onion exports were made.
The biggest importers of Ukrainian onions in the first two months of the year, were Iraq, which bought 80% of all the export volume of onions from Ukraine. In monetary terms this equated to $565,000. In second place was the United Kingdom which bought 11%, or $83,000 worth, in third place was Cyprus, which bought 4.4%, $31,000.
In January-February 2016, the amount of onions imported equated to $902,000. The biggest suppliers of onions to Ukraine were the Netherlands ($411,000, 45.5%) and China ($404,000, 44.8%)
