The pears on the market at the moment are those that were ripe last autumn. As the overall fruit prices are low, consumers prefer to purchase other fruit rather than pears. In normal market situations, pears cost around 4-6 yuan per kilo, while this year the retail price is only 4 yuan per kilo, and the wholesale price is as low as 3 yuan per kilo.
Another main reason for the low pear price is due to its large harvest volume last year. As more and more seasonal fruits come to the market such as pineapple , strawberries, nectarines. Consumers tend to buy fresh seasonal fruits rather than stocked fruits from last year.
