Core Tip: Snacks maker Baketime has announced recall of several of Aldi branded biscuit, snack and confectionery products over suspected pest contamination.
Snacks maker Baketime has announced recall of several of Aldi branded biscuit, snack and confectionery products over suspected pest contamination.

The products are sold by supermarkets such as Aldi, Asvina, Booker and LBV. The affected products are Aldi Cheese Thins, Aldi Cheese Bakes, Aldi Oddbites and Aldi Ginger Nuts.

Aldi spokesperson stated: "We have recalled a number of Aldi-branded products that have been manufactured by Baketime and have immediately suspended all orders with this supplier while we investigate this matter.

"Customers that have purchased the products listed in our public recall notices should return them to their nearest store where they will be offered a full refund."

Aldi confirmed that no other product codes are affected by this recall.

Baketime stated: "We continue to work closely with our local environmental health officer and pest control contractor to ensure that the issue has been properly eradicated and hygienic standards on site are upheld."

The companies are removing the suspected products while investigation over the recalled items is ongoing.

Customers have been advised not to consume the products carrying the production codes 43320, 63586, 40221 and 64635. They are urged to return the product at the place of purchase for a full refund.

On its website, Baketime confirmed the discovery of pests at its premises in January 2016 itself. The company then conducted a pest control program following which it declared that the area was clear of pests within two weeks. However, in March further evidence of pest activity was identified and another intense program of pest control measures was implemented.

In mid-March, the company voluntarily ceased production temporarily in consultation with the local Environmental Health Officer, following a routine site inspection.

As a precautionary measure, the company has recalled products manufactured between 18 January 2016 and 16 March 2016.

The company again cleared the production area of pest activity and resumed manufacturing. Baketime said its statement that it is continuing to work with the local EHO and pest control contractor to ensure that the issue has been dealt with and hygienic standards on site are restored.
