The Indonesian market will remain open to Greek fruit and vegetables after the publication of the necessary documentation, as reported by the special advisor to the Association of Greek Fruit, Vegetable and Juice Exporting Companies, INCOFRUIT-HELLAS, Giorgos Polichronakis, stressing that, "after the decisive and successful intervention of the deputy general secretary of Rural Development, Nikou Stoupi, and the rapid reaction of our embassy in Jakarta, it was eventually possible to complete the inexplicably lengthy bureaucratic process, which has concluded with the approval from the Indonesian side of the request for recognition for Greek laboratories."
As already reported, Indonesia had announced the implementation of new legislation on the protocols for fresh fruit and vegetables, which entered into force on 16 February 2016. This entailed the need of issuing a request for the recognition for the Greek food safety and hygiene system. The process, however, took longer than planned, with the consequent risk of failing to meet the deadlines.
Mr Polichronakis praised the effective mobilization of the political leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food and asked for the same interest to be shown in sorting out pending applications from other Asian and South American countries."
