Nestle Professional and Crown Aerosols & Speciality Packaging Europe are collaborating to create a new packing format for the Nescafe range of coffee brands in the UK.

The Swiss food and beverage company has approached Crown with a new package shape requirement to replace the present round composite containers.

The new container designed and manufactured by Crown, will be available in three sizes - 500g, 750g and 1kg and features three parts.

A three-piece tin with a rounded, rectangular shape, a resealable hinged-lid plastic cap which comes with click and close technology to keep the contents fresh for longer. This plastic cap has been developed by AptarGroup.

Crown's container will also feature PeelSeam peelable end which includes a thin, flexible aluminum foil lid that is heat-sealed to a rigid steel ring. Customers can just grasp the small tab on the lid to open the package.

Nestle had carried out consumer research regarding the packaging format. Consumers were believed to have liked the metal packaging, the shape functionality and the resealable hinged lid which claimed to protect the contents within.

Crown's team of designers and engineers partnered with Nestle from the initial conceptualization to the final product completion in order to develop the container and improve the brand's existing packaging design which is a composite, cylindrical shaped tin with a plastic overcap.

The container's shape has been designed ergonomically with a user-friendly format, thereby facilitating consumers to easily hold the container in one hand for greater convenience and ease-of-use.

The metal also comes with a better finish in terms of embellishment, making it suitable for the high quality graphics on Nestlé packaging.

Crown's Mansfield facility has produced the tins. The facility has been updated with new production capacities to accommodate specifications required for the coffee containers.

Crown Aerosols & Speciality Packaging Europe marketing director Véronique Curulla said: "Once again metal has presented itself as the go-to material for a world-leading brand. We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved with Nestlé - the new tins represent a truly collaborative effort between Crown's European teams and Nestlé's own creative group.

"The feedback received from consumer research speaks for itself and demonstrates that working in close partnership with our customers can deliver outstanding results."

The new Nestlé tins will be available in the UK professional market starting April 2016.
