An increased supply of seasonal vegetables from across the country has seen the retail price of veg drop in Kathmandu in the past week. Meanwhile, fruit prices have remained stable.
As per price list published by Kalimati Fruits and Vegetables Market Development Board (KFVMDB), retail price of red and white potatoes have decreased by seven rupees per kg to Rs 38 a kg and by two rupees per kg to Rs 33, respectively.
The price of cabbage slumped by 22.22 per cent to Rs 35 per kg. Similarly, the price of cauliflower dropped by Rs 10 to Rs 75 a kg. The price of cowpeas (bodi) also fell 26.09 per cent to Rs 85 per kg.
However, the price of pointed gourd (parwal) and smooth gourd (gheeraula) remained stable at Rs 75 and Rs 105, respectively.
“The main reason for reduction in prices is the entry of seasonal vegetables grown by Nepali farmers,” explained Gopal Airee, a wholesale trader at KFVMDB. “Nowadays we are mostly buying seasonal vegetables like cauliflower and lady’s finger from farmers in Chitwan, Dhading and Bhaktapur.”
The price of most fruits remained stable in the last eight days.
The price of apples, bananas, lime and pomegranate are at the same level — Rs 115 per kg, Rs 115 per dozen, Rs 475 per kg and Rs 215 per kg, respectively. However, the price of mango has dropped by 21.62 per cent to Rs 145 per kg.
