Last year, Bulgaria's fruit and vegetable production increased by 20 and 18%, as announced by the Minister of Agriculture and Food, Desislava Taneva, during the press conference about the launch of a national campaign in support of the 100 National Tourist Sites "We love Bulgaria".
60 percent of fruits and 72 percent of vegetables consumed in Bulgaria are grown by domestic producers, pointed out Taneva.
The Minister also recalled that the assistance which fruit and vegetables are receiving during this programming period is higher.
Taneva announced that Bulgaria consumes food worth more than 7.6 billion Lev (3.88 billion Euro). The highest share corresponds to milk and milk products, nearly 1.5 billion Lev (765.6 million Euro), with local products representing over 1.2 billion Lev (612.5 million Euro). For their part, fruit and vegetables account for 1 billion Lev (510.4 million Euro).
