Core Tip: "Large retail chains need to have separate sections for Bulgarian fruits and vegetables, so that consumers can have a choice.
"Large retail chains need to have separate sections for Bulgarian fruits and vegetables, so that consumers can have a choice. So far, no large store chains have a special place for Bulgarian products," stated Camellia Parashkevova, of the Association of Mushroom Producers in Bulgaria.

Over 80% of the mushroom market is taken by Polish goods because of the Russian embargo, according to the Association. They are adamant that Bulgarians buy imported mushrooms that are at least 5 days old because of the long process of transportation.

The Association explained that Bulgarian mushrooms reach consumers the day after they are harvested, which guarantees the freshness and quality of the goods. Bulgarian mushroom producers have further warned that the country has no specialists to control the quality of mushrooms.
