The status report for Norwegian fruit and vegetables from the Agriculture Directorate for the current week shows a fluctuating situation. For vegetables, the situation is generally good; sales are going well and there is little import. Only the price of cauliflowers fell last week; otherwise, prices are stable and are expected to remain at the same level. When it comes to quality, there is some diversity in the stores, according to the Directorate.
As for greenhouse vegetables, it has been reported that both sales and volume are good for cucumbers; there are, however, too few tomatoes, so demand has to be met with imports at a high price.
The Directorate has also predicted that Norwegian apples will hit the market next week. There will also be some plums, although the volume will be limited, but the quality should be good.
When it comes to berries, there are insufficient volumes of both strawberries and raspberries.
"There will be smaller quantities of strawberries. The Norwegian berries should be on the market through August, but there won't be enough to meet demand. We'll depend on imports. The same goes for raspberries; there are too few in the market and demand will need to be covered with imports," writes the Directorate.
The strawberry season has been good in several places in the country, but in other places growers have suffered the total destruction of their crops. Some producers have also seen their raspberries affected by fungus.
