Central Epicure is recalling Wild Sockeye Smoked Salmon from the marketplace in Canada because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the consumption of this product, but the illness caused by this bacteria can take up to 70 days to appear.

The recalled products are Wild Sockeye Smoked Salmon in 85 gram packages with no brand name. The code on the product is 2017SE07 and the UPC number is 0 61279 00330 7. Also recalled is Sensations by Compliments brand Wild Smoked Wild Pacific Smoked Salmon in 170 gram packages. The codes on that product are 2017MA30 and 2017JN03. They were sold in Ontario and may have been sold nationally.

If you purchased either of these products, do not eat them. Throw them away in a sealed container so other people and animals can’t eat them, or take them back to the store where you bought them for a full refund. Wash your hands well after handling these products.

Then clean out your refrigerator with a mild bleach solution to kill any remaining bacteria. Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can grow easily at refrigerator temperatures.

If you ate any of these products, monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include high fever, vomiting, nausea, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness. Pregnant women may only be mildly ill with symptoms of the flu, but listeriosis can cause miscarriage and stillbirth.
