The Ministry of Customs and Trade has published the implementation of fresh fruit and vegetable tagging in the Official Gazette.
The tags, in the form of a label, will allow consumers to find out details about the product such as the type of commodity, size, origin and name of producer. The labels will also contain information on whether or not the fruit and vegetables are grown in accordance with organic standards and details of relevant certification bodies.
There will be no obligation for growers to tag their fruit and vegetables when they sell them directly to consumers at farmers markets.
