Data from the Central Statistical Office of Poland (GUS) shows that in June this year, the country's frozen fruit production amounted to 69 thousand tonnes and was about 20 percent lower than last year. "The biggest impact on the decrease of the total fruit production was probably the lower production of frozen strawberries," said Mariusz Dziwulski, analyst at BGZ BNP Paribas.

The GUS data shows that in the months of June-August 2016, establishments employing at least 50 people produced 232 thousand tonnes of frozen fruit, which is 6% less than in the same period last year. It is worth mentioning that these are the months in which the production usually peaks, with the share of frozen fruit produced from June to August in 2015 having accounted for 59% of the total production that year," he adds.

As noted by the GUS, significant changes were observed in the structure of the country's strawberry production in July, as a lower acreage was devoted to the purpose of industrial production, while that intended for fresh consumption increased, he added.

The specialist also pointed out that while the production of frozen fruits decreased in July by 3.8%, it later recovered, recording a 5.2% increase in August.
