For the past two years (from November 2014 to November 2016), the Bulgarian agricultural sector has received nearly 6.3 billion Lev (about 3.22 billion Euro) in direct payments for rural development and other aid schemes, according to a report from the Ministry of Agriculture.
The Ministry was proud to announce that this has created more favourable conditions for the development of small and medium-sized farms, especially for vulnerable farms in mountainous areas, and also that it has served to tackle the ageing of the labour force in agriculture by attracting young farmers and promoting the development of their farms.
As a direct result of the linked support schemes applied until 2015, positive results have been recorded in both the livestock and arable sectors, with a high degree of utilization of insured financial resources; over 90 percent.
Also worth noting is that the harvested fruit acreage grew by 35 percent in a year, while that devoted to vegetables grew by 15 percent.
