In Azerbaijan, the persimmon season takes place between October and November; this year, the production has been smaller than last year’s because of the damage caused by strong winds, despite this the quality has been good.

According to Aqil Isayev of Isayevllc, based in the city of Zaqatala and devoted to the export of fresh and dried fruit, "The quality of Azerbaijan persimmon is, in fact, one of best in the world, as it grows in the most suitable environmental conditions. The reason why it is not yet very popular among consumers is due to the fact that they have not managed to gain access to the European markets, yet.”

However, Isayev said that in the local market the demand is increasing every year, and persimmons are also the country’s second most important fruit when it comes to bringing currency into the country.

For its part, Isayevllc, founded in 2005 and with an acreage totalling about 50 or 70 hectares, markets one variety and is able to supply it to every destination. "At the moment, we are supplying the persimmons to wholesalers. Prices have been normal this season, higher than in the previous one. In the internal markets, there are a lot of competitors in the persimmon sector, so we must really try to open to the global market,” says Isayev.

It is worth noting that Isayevllc always makes its shipments in refrigerated trucks with reliable transport companies. Shipments to the Netherlands are estimated to take between 7 and 10 days to arrive.
