The export record reached just last year may already have been shattered come 2017. According to current data, exports have risen nearly 13% in the first 19 weeks of the year when compared to the previous period.
Much of the increase is attributed to Holland onions finding new markets to enter. Indonesia for example has nearly doubled imports of onions in the last year alone. Indonesia is not alone however as exports to the Ivory Coast and Senegal show a rise as well.
Even traditional European domestic markets like the United Kingdom, Belgium and France are up compared to last season. Great Britain is even approximating the pre-war export data of this country.
Exports to the Philippines increased by no less than 60% and the export to Nicaragua doubled, totaling 9,700 ton. Known, long haul destinations like the island nations of Haiti (with an increase of 30%) and the Dominican Republic, are even supplied on a weekly basis this season. Panama, which HOA has visited this season, greatly appreciates Holland Onions as well and has already purchased 7,800 ton.
