Core Tip: The consequence of sustained high temperatures and rainfall on the price of vegetable in Beijing has gradually emerged.
The consequence of sustained high temperatures and rainfall on the price of vegetable in Beijing has gradually emerged. The most prominent of these is the continuous increase in the price of green onions. The continuous rainfall in the main producing area of Shandong spring onions caused a decrease in production, and the market price almost doubled in the first few days of the month.

In Beijing Xinfadi Agricultural Products Wholesale Market, a sales merchant said that the price of the onions has risen slightly since the beginning of July and has soared since August. The price of which has risen more than 80% in half a month. According to the merchants, the price has been lower than that of the same period last year, but it has suddenly surged in August. Now it has reached the highest point for five years.

The onions sold in the summer market are mainly from Shandong, including Anqiu in Weifang, Shandong and Pingdu in Qingdao. Since July this year, there have been several consecutive heavy rains in Shandong Province, and the onions in Qingdao and Weifang have been flooded. After the rain, there is no way to harvest the onions in the ground.

After the rain in Shandong, the water in the ground has not completely recede and the high temperature weather immediately followed. The temperature of the accumulated water rises rapidly, and the onions were soaked by the high temperature water, causing some to rot. Some onions seem to be good on the surface, but the inside has been rotten. After being shipped to the market, it is sold in a high temperature environment, and the degree of rot is intensified, which makes the overall costs increase to another level.
