The FDA is warning consumers not to use PC Organics brand baby food that was manufactured specifically for the Canadian marketplace. Some U.S. consumers may have purchased these products in Canada. The baby food has been recalled for possible Clostridium botulinum contamination.
Loblaw Companies is recalling PC Organics baby food pouches. A manufacturing error resulted in excess water in the product, which could support the growth of Clostridium botulinum. That bacteria produces a toxin that is deadly in tiny amounts. The recall was triggered by a consumer complaint.
The early symptoms of Clostridium botulinum food poisoning include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, dizziness, blurred or double vision, and dry mouth. The toxin can cause respiratory failure, paralysis, and death.
