Veggie Noodle of Texas is recalling a limited quantity of Butternut Spirals for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. No illnesses have been reported in connection with this issue, but listeriosis, the illness caused by this bacteria, can take up to 70 days to manifest.

The recalled product is Butternut Spirals in 10.7 ounce clear plastic containers. It has a UPC number of 852287006059 and an “Enjoy By” date of February 23, 2017. The enjoy by date is located on the side of the package. This product is sold in refrigerated sections of grocery stores. The noodles were sold in Whole Foods Markets and at other retailers in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio and Wisconsin.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it, even if you plan to cook it. The product may be eaten uncooked or cooked. Throw it away in a sealed or double bagged container or take it back to the place of purchase for a full refund. Then clean out your refrigerator or freezer, or wherever you stored the product, with a mild bleach solution to kill bacteria.

If you ate this product, watch yourself for the symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning for the next 70 days. Symptoms include high fever, stiffness, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, and severe headache. Pregnant women, even though their illness is mild, can suffer miscarriage or stillbirth if they contract this infection. If you do get sick, see your doctor.
