ALDI, in cooperation with Lakeside Foods Inc., is recalling Season’s Choice Frozen Sweet Peas for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem, but listeriosis, the illness caused by this bacteria, can take up to 70 days to appear.

The recalled product is Season’s Choice Frozen Sweet Peas in 16 ounce bags. The UPC number is 041498164294. The best by date is 8/2018, and the packaging codes are: DC17038 PLAB6176, DC27038 PLAB6176, DC27038 BNAF7286, DC37038 BNAF7286, DC47038 PLAC6216, and DC57038 PLAC6216. They were sold at ALDI locations in Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it, even if you are going to cook it. Throw it away in a secure garbage receptacle or take it back to the place of purchase for a refund.

Then clean out your refrigerator with a solution of one tablespoon liquid chlorine bleach to one gallon of water. Freezing doesn’t kill Listeria monocytogenes bacteria.

If you ate this product, monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next days days. Those symptoms could be mild and like the flu, especially for pregnant women, but could include high fever, stiff neck, headache, nausea, and diarrhea. Listeriosis can be very serious, so if you do get sick, see your doctor.
