Our Local Bounty of Rogue River, Oregon is recalling 312 containers of Farming Fish brand Organic Basil Pesto with Watercress because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. There is no word on whether or not any illnesses have been reported to date.
The recalled product is Basil Pesto with Watercress in 8.5 ounce containers. It has the UPC number 7 23175 33586 8, and was distributed in retail stores in Oregon. The affected product has ” enjoy or freeze by” dates of 4/30/2017, 5/6/2017, 5/13/2017, and 5/20/2017.
If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Throw it away in a sealed or secure garbage can, or take it back to the store where you bought it for a full refund. The company is refunding not only these date codes but all products in an 8.5 ounce plastic deli container. Then clean out your refrigerator with a mild bleach solution to kill any bacteria.
If you ate this product, monitor yourself for listeriosis, the illness caused by this bacteria, for the next 70 days because that’s how long it can take for symptoms to appear. Symptoms of listeriosis can range from a mild flu-like illness, most common in pregnant women, to high fever, stiff neck, severe headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. If you do get sick, see your doctor.
