AGRANA Group, an internationally oriented Austrian sugar, starch and fruit company, expanded its presence in Asia by acquiring a fruit processing plant from the Indian fruit processor SAIKRUPA Fruit Processing. The acquisition of the plant from SAIKRUPA, combined with the founding of the AGRANA Fruit India Private in September 2016, resulted in AGRANA expanding its production activities in Asia to a third Asian region, in addition to China and South Korea, the Indian subcontinent. Market leader AGRANA produces their fruit preparation all over the world, on 26 sites in 20 different countries.

The new fruit processing plant is located in western India, in the federal state of Maharashtra, about 50 km south of the city Pune. It is located in close proximity to strategically important commodities such as mangos, strawberries, pomegranates and guava. Important customers have set up operations in this region too. Furthermore, AGRANA Fruit India has opened an office and a research and development laboratory in Pune.

“This first step in India, with the acquisition of this fruit processing plant, is an important part of our expansion plan on the fast-growing Asian market. Excellent opportunities exist for our products, particularly in emerging markets such as India, due to rising purchasing power and the changes in consumer behavior patterns. AGRANA’s high quality products and innovative strength creates a large portfolio, ranging from standard fruit preparations for yoghurts and ice creams to premium-segment fruit solutions such as sauces, condiments, fillings and smoothie bases, which meet our customers’ demands,” states Johann Marihart, CEO of AGRANA.

AGRANA fruit preparations

Fruit preparations contain top quality fruit, and are processed into a liquid or into pieces in order to be used in dairy products, ice cream, and bakery products. The fruit preparations are developed and produced by AGRANA for individual customers and in close collaboration with these customers.

In addition to supplying the food processing industry with fruit preparations, AGRANA also supplies fast-food companies and food service providers.
