Star Snacks Co. has issued a voluntary recall of two lots of its “SOUTHERN GROVE CASHEW HALVES AND PIECES WITH SEA SALT” product, according to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA). The recall was initiated after a consumer reported finding pieces of glass in the cashews.

Star Snacks Co. is headquartered in Jersey City, New Jersey. The products affected by the recall were distributed to ALDI stores in the states of Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington DC, Wisconsin, and West Virginia.

The cashews being recalled were distributed in 8-ounce (227 gram) canisters. The canister labels are stamped with the UPC code #041498179366 and – on the bottom of the cans – the “Best By” dates of 11/27/18 and 11/28/18.

The glass fragments pose the risk of injury to those who try to eat this product. Consumers are advised to either throw the cashews away or to return them to their place of purchase for a full refund.
