Publix Super Markets is voluntarily recalling Publix Tropical Medley Mix because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. The mix was sold in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, and North Carolina No illnesses have been reported to date. Publix received notification of potential contamination from their supplier of dried apricots.
The recalled product is Publix Tropical Medley Mix in 5.7 ounce clear plastic containers. The UPC number is 41415088586. All use by dates are being recalled.
If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Throw it away in a sealed or double bagged package, or take it back to the store where you bought it for a full refund. then clean out your refrigerator with a solution of 1 tablespoon liquid chlorine bleach to 1 gallon hot water. Listeria bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures, and freezing doesn’t kill it.
If you ate this product, watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include high fever, stiff neck, severe headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women may only have a mild illness like the flu, but listeriosis can cause miscarriage, premature labor, stillbirth, and infection in the newborn. If you do feel sick, see your doctor.
