Peruvian agro exports increased by 10% in July

Peruvian agro exports have consolidated their growth. Between January and July they totaled about US $ 2,852,749,000 which means a growth of 10% compared to the similar period of 2016, reported the Agroexport Management of the Exporters Association (ADEX).

The Agroexports' guild manager, Paula Carrión Tello, pointed out the importance of the work between public and private sector to sustain the good behavior of this sector that, in 2016, generated 1 million 402 thousand jobs nationwide. Of that number, just over 450,000 were direct jobs.

She highlighted the various actions promoted by ADEX with public and private entities, that contribute to the growth of the sector. These include the Expoalimentaria fair, that will be held from September 27 to 29 in Peru, and the VIII International Convention of Capsicum to be held at the end of the month in Arequipa.

"The entry into new markets, different niches of consumers, lifting health barriers in other markets and improving producer's work to achieve a solid and safe offer, will allow to this trend to be maintained," he said.

Traditional

Traditional agricultural shipments (US $ 243 million 752 thousand) grew 3.4%.

According to figures from the trade intelligence system ADEX Data Trade, traditional products reached 49 destinations. USA was first in the ranking (US $ 54 million 834 thousand) and Germany (US $ 40 million 743 thousand) that together concentrated the 39.2% of participation. Belgium, Spain and Colombia follow.

Others that had a significant growth were the Dominican Republic (166.1%) and Egypt (76.4%). The new markets that entered the Peruvian portfolio were Malaysia, Morocco and Indonesia.

Added value
Value-added agro-exports totaled US $ 2.608 billion, 11% more than in the January-July period of last year, and it included avocados, grapes, fresh asparagus, mangoes and other preparations used for animal feed as their main export items.

In July alone, this particular subsector grew 14%, the third highest rate of increase in the year after May (25%) and June (16%).

The ranking is led by the avocado, which experienced a 42.3% increase due to the higher demand from the Netherlands and USA, achieving a concentration of 18.7%, followed by grapes (up 19.8%). Its most important markets are the USA, Hong Kong and the Netherlands. The fastest growing countries were Indonesia (241%), Spain (134% and Taiwan (128%).

They were followed by fresh asparagus, fresh mangoes, other preparations used for animal feed, bananas, quinoa, pomegranate, canned mango, canned asparagus and cocoa beans.

Agribusiness with added value reached 130 markets, led by the United States (imported avocados, fresh asparagus and grapes), Netherlands (avocado, mango and bananas), Spain (avocado, piquillo pepper and canned asparagus) and Ecuador (preparations for animals and biscuits).

The top-ranked markets were South Korea (ranked 11) with a 135% increase, Ecuador (ranked 4) with 34.2%, Haiti (ranked 18) with 32.5%, Italy (ranked 19) with 25.3% and China (ranked 7) with 21.8%).
